IPLD Prince George's Trip - WMATA (Metro) / Microsoft (Transportation/Video Game Design)

This is our second IPLD experience of the program year, where students will receive a full day of industry learning and career exploration with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) and Microsoft.  Students will gain a working knowledge of the transit system and software coding.

WMATA (Metro) (Transportation Industry)

Students will receive a working knowledge of the transit system and learn how to be an industry leader in transportation.  While exploring career opportunities, students will tour metro's facilities and gain a greater appreciation for the application of technology, business, and finance with WMATA.

Microsoft (Video Game Design / Software Coding)

Students will work with Microsoft staff to explore coding and software development to build active graphics for their projects.  While learning about what it takes to work for Microsoft and become a video game coder, students will also have an opportunity to participate in a gaming tournament as well.  

***Departure/Pickup Location (New Carrollton Metro Station - Garden City Rd Entrance):***

NOTE:  Since we are doing a metro visit in the morning and our next destination is off of the metro, we will be meeting at the New Carrollton Metro Station and utilizing metro as our main form of transportation on this day.

NOTE:  Note there are two sides to drop people off at the metro:  1) on the side from Annapolis Rd  or   2) from Exit 19B off of I-495 to merge onto Route 50 (via Exit 6 - Garden City Rd). 

We will be best located standing outside at the main entrance on the Garden City Rd side of the Metro (option 2 shown above).  So for a straight and direct shot with no traffic to New Carrollton, please put in the address above and go this route.  If you come via Annapolis Rd, please note that we will be standing on the other side of the metro waiting to meet you there with an EduSerc IPLD sign for our students!!

ITINERARY - Monday, November 11th

8:00am                     IPLD Dropoff (New Carrollton Metro Station - Meet at Garden City Rd. Entrance)

8:00am - 9:00am      Travel to WMATA (Metro) Washington D.C.

9:00am - 12:00pm    WMATA Tour and industry learning experience 

12:00pm - 1:00pm    Lunch / Travel to Pentagon City Mall

1:00pm - 3:00pm      Microsoft Video Game Training (Pentagon City)  

3:00pm - 5:00pm      Microsoft Gaming Event

5:00pm - 6:00pm      Travel back to New Carrollton Metro Station (Garden City Rd. Entrance

6:00pm                      IPLD Return/Arrival:  New Carrollton Metro Station - (Garden City Rd. Entrance)

• Materials:  Please bring your EduSerc notebooks (or general notebook for notes) and a pen/pencil
• Dress Code:  EduSerc IPLD Shirts or Business Casual Dress (wear comfortable shoes).
